Local ISO consultancy, on site when it matters
A lot of ISO work can be done remotely: planning, document review, workshops and management review all run well on a video call. The parts that make or break a management system usually cannot. Checking that operational controls match what happens on the shop floor or the site, talking to workers about how risks are really managed, walking through emergency arrangements and observing the work an auditor will look at all need someone there in person.
Featherstone Safety is based in Oxfordshire, so for organisations across the county and the Cotswolds those site days are straightforward to arrange. Projects mix remote and on-site work in whatever proportion suits you, and the site time goes where it adds most value.
Areas we cover
We support organisations throughout Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds, including Oxford, Abingdon, Didcot, Wantage, Witney, Carterton, Banbury, Bicester, Kidlington, Woodstock, Chipping Norton, Faringdon and Cirencester. Organisations elsewhere in the UK are supported remotely, with site visits agreed as part of the scope.
Who we work with
- Contractors and suppliers asked for ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 in a tender, framework or client prequalification
- Manufacturers and engineering businesses that want their existing safety arrangements formalised into a certifiable system
- Logistics, warehousing and distribution operations with multiple shifts or sites
- Organisations already certified to ISO 9001 adding health and safety or environmental management
- Quarry and mineral operators, through our ISO management systems for mining programme
- Contractors in the energy supply chain, through our ISO 45001 for energy contractors programme
ISO services
- On-site gap assessment
A structured review of your arrangements against ISO 45001, ISO 14001 or both, including time on site with the people doing the work. You receive graded findings and a prioritised roadmap.
- ISO 45001 implementation
Building an occupational health and safety management system around how your organisation actually operates, through to certification readiness.
- ISO 14001 implementation
Environmental aspects and impacts, compliance obligations, operational controls and monitoring, built to suit your site and activities.
- Integrated management systems
ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 run as one system, with shared document control, audits and management review.
- Internal audits
Audit programmes, auditor coaching or audits of areas we have not designed, so impartiality is maintained.
- Certification readiness and ongoing support
Preparing for the certification body's audits, responding to findings, and keeping the system current afterwards.
For how a project runs from start to finish, see ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 consultancy.
How a local ISO project runs
- Initial call. Your activities, sites, people, current arrangements and why you want certification.
- On-site gap assessment. Usually the first paid step, and the one that defines the rest of the work.
- Written proposal. A fixed fee, specific deliverables, the number of site days, your responsibilities and a realistic timetable.
- Implementation. Remote workshops and document work, with site days for the operational parts of the system.
- Internal audit and management review. A full cycle completed before the certification body arrives.
- Certification audits. Support through the certification body's stage 1 and stage 2 audits and any findings.
ISO and day-to-day health and safety from one consultant
Many organisations working towards ISO 45001 also need practical health and safety support along the way: risk assessments that reflect how the work is done, COSHH assessments, workplace inspections or an adviser on call. Because Featherstone Safety provides both, the management system and the day-to-day arrangements are built by the same person and stay consistent with each other.
- Risk assessments and RAMS
- COSHH assessments
- Workplace inspections and audits
- Monthly health and safety retainer
Featherstone Safety is a consultancy, not a certification body. Certification is carried out and decided by an independent, accredited certification body. Why the two roles are separate.
Why Featherstone Safety
Featherstone Safety Ltd is an independent UK occupational health and safety consultancy providing ISO management system consultancy and implementation support. Thomas Featherstone holds the NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and IOSH Managing Safely, is a Technical Member of IOSH (TechIOSH), and has eight years in safety-critical work.
- Systems that match the work. We build processes around how your organisation actually operates, so they survive contact with an auditor and with day-to-day pressure.
- Independent of certification. We are not a certification body and we do not issue certificates. Certification decisions are always made by an independent, accredited certification body.
- Practical site experience. Recent work includes on-site health and safety advisory and observation support during the delivery and installation of a 300 tonne super grid transformer. That was health and safety advisory work, not ISO consultancy, and it is not an endorsement of our ISO services.

Frequently asked questions
Do you visit sites in Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds?
Yes. Featherstone Safety is based in Oxfordshire, so site days for gap assessments, implementation and internal audits are straightforward to arrange across the county and the Cotswolds. The number of site days is agreed in the written proposal.
A client has asked us for ISO 45001. Where do we start?
Start with a gap assessment. It shows how far your current arrangements are from the standard, what needs to change and how long it is likely to take, so you can give your client a realistic timescale. Our readiness checklist is a quick way to get a first view before speaking to us.
How long does ISO 45001 take for a small or medium business?
It depends on your starting point, the number of sites and the time your team can give it. A business with sound health and safety arrangements moves faster than one starting from little. The gap assessment produces a timeline specific to you.
Should we do ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 together?
If you need both, implementing them together is usually more efficient, because shared processes such as document control, internal audit and management review are built once. If you only need one now, the system can be designed so the other can be added later.
Can you also help with our general health and safety?
Yes. Alongside ISO consultancy we provide risk assessments, COSHH assessments, inspections, training and a monthly retainer for organisations that want an adviser on call.
How much does ISO consultancy cost?
Indicative fees start from £1,250 for a gap assessment, £5,995 for ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 implementation and £9,995 for an integrated system. The final figure depends on the people and sites in scope and your starting point. We scope each project first and then confirm a fixed fee in writing. Certification body fees are separate and paid directly to the certification body.
Do you issue the ISO certificate?
No. Featherstone Safety is a consultancy. Certificates are issued by independent certification bodies, ideally accredited by UKAS, after their own audits.
